Before the radio play that caused mass hysteria, there was the original science fiction novel by HG Wells– The War of the Worlds. Like much sci-fi of the time TWOTW was filled with extra details to convince readers of its plausibility, melding fact with fiction in meaningful ways. Here is the excerpt:
